Happy New Year


Happy New Year!!!!!!Chinese Of Course 

                                       ¡FELIZ AÑO NUEVO! Chino por supuesto 


This year we will be celebrating the year of the Ox! In grades 5 and 4 they learned about the Chinese Lunar New Year traditions as well as refreshed their knowledge about animals by learning the Chinese Zodiac. The origins of the Chinese Zodiac come from the Legend of the Great Race which was held by the Jade Emperor in order to measure time. The students had to do some math and calculate their Chinese Zodiac signs and those of their parents! Those born in 2010 were born in the year of the GOLD TIGER, while those born in 2011 are born in the year of the Rabbit.

Este año se celebrará el año del buey. En los cursos de 4º y 5º de primaria los estudiantes han tenido la oportunidad de aprender sobre esta importante tradición y el calendario lunar además de refrescar sus conocimientos sobre los animales aprendiendo el zodiaco chino.  En todo China existe una leyenda muy popular que podría describirse como el origen del horóscopo chino. El Emperador de Jade, gobernante del cielo, llamó a una carrera a todos los animales del mundo y dijo que los doce primeros entrarían en el zodiaco. Para llegar a su encuentro, debían cruzar un río. 
Nuestros estudiantes tuvieron que poner en práctica sus conocimientos sobre las matemáticas y calcular su signo del zodiaco el de sus padres. Los que nacieron en el 2010 son tigres mientras que los que nacieron en el 2011 son conejos. 



The purpose of this exercise was not only to review animal vocabulary but to expand their knowledge of personality adjectives whilst learning about and respecting the traditions of another culture. The students read all the personality traits of all the zodiac signs and were tasked to describe themselves with 5 new adjectives they had learned. 



El propósito de esta actividad era revisar el vocabulario relacionado con los animales, además de aprender nuevo léxico relacionado con los adjetivos para describir a personas y aprender .

In our Bilingual Bicultural project the 2nd grade students are continuing with animal related activities. Taking advantage of Women's day they also learned about Jane Goodall and her research about chimps.  Los alumnos de 2º de Primaria en nuestro Proyecto Bicultural, siguiendo con las actividades relacionadas con los animales y aprovechando el Día Internacional de la Mujer, han conocido a Jane Goodall y su investigación sobre los chimpancés.  What an interesting science class! ¡Una clase sobre científicas muy interesante!

Gobble Up!!!!!

    Thanksgiving!  Did you know that Thanksgiving is not only celebrated in the US but also in Canada?  ¿Sabías que Acción de Gracias, a parte de en Estados Unidos, también se celebra en Canadá?  Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October instead of November. Thanksgiving in both Canada and the US is a holiday which celebrates the harvest of the year. The US holiday is modeled by the harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) and the native american Wapangoag People in Plymouth. However, it is believed to have dated farther back, as decades before this event Spanish settlers and members of the Seloy tribes broke bread together. The Spanish shared salted pork, garbanzo beans and held a mass in Florida 1565.  En Canadá, se celebra en el segundo lunes de octubre, en vez de en noviembre. Farm Animals

  We are continuing with animals in our Bilingual Bicultural project! The 1st grade students have created a beautiful farm with various farm animals. Through this activity we have learned the names of farm animals, their sounds and the different parts of each animal, all accompanied with songs related to this topic! They had a great time!  En nuestro Proyecto Bicultural seguimos trabajando los animales, en esta ocasión con los alumnos de 1º de Primaria que han realizado una bonita granja con sus animales. A través de esta actividad hemos conocido los nombres de los animales que viven en la granja, su sonidos, las diferentes partes de cada animal y todo ello acompañado de divertidas canciones relacionadas con esta temática. ¡Lo han pasado genial!
